Jay L. “Jerry” Chandler, 79, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Thursday, January 11, 2018, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Jay was born on April 19, 1938 in rural Jasper County, Missouri, son of the late Everett Carl and Edith (Moore) Chandler. He was a 1956 graduate of Sarcoxie High School. On November 23, 1957 he was united in marriage to Barbara Heman, together they shared sixty years. They made Carthage their home for several years before relocating to Sarcoxie. He served eight years with the 203rd Army National Guard. Jay had worked for the Carthage Fire Department, Steadley Manufacturing and retired from Carthage Water and Electric in 2000, as an electrical inspector. He was a member of Blake Baptist Church, He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Chandler and one sister, Norma Lancaster.
Jay is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home; one son, Robby Jay Chandler of Sugar Land, Texas; sister, Marjorie Robertson and husband, Lawrence, of Carthage, Missouri; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dave and Dorothy Patton of Sarcoxie, Missouri, several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at Fullerton Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri with Pastor Larry Robertson officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Shumny, David Alan Patton, John Garrett, Larry Chrisman, Dave Lawyer and David Patton.
