Mike Glauber

(From Knell Mortuary)

Michael A.”Mike” Glauber, 81, passed from this life peacefully at home, in Cypress, Texas, on November 26, 2024. He was born on March 10, 1943 to Wilfrid Bernard “Bill” Glauber and Mary Elizbeth (Wakefield) Glauber in East St. Louis, Illinois.

Mike grew up in the family home in French Village, attended St. Philips grade school and Assumption high school in East St. Louis, and graduated from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. There he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Barry.

Mike and Mary Lou were married on August 29, 1964 in Dallas, Texas. They lived in San Antonio until Mike graduated and then moved to Dallas where he joined Alexander Grant (now Grant Thornton) as a CPA. He was recruited by one of his audit clients, Leggett & Platt, and moved the family to Carthage, Missouri. This decision was one of many examples of his incredible ability to recognize potential and take action. He enjoyed a long, successful and rewarding career with Leggett. The company experienced exponential growth during his tenure, and he made lifelong friends along the way. He retired as CFO and Board Member in 2003 to care for his grandchild, Caitlin “Dakota” (and fulfilled his promise to get Mary Lou back to Texas).

“Mike Glauber could crack an egg with one hand and flip it in the pan without a spatula.” On the surface perhaps not one of his greatest accomplishments (and there were many over his long life), but it is a wonderful metaphor for who he was in all aspects of life. The same drive and desire that motivated him to develop this fabulously entertaining skill led him through his successful career and fueled the passion for his many life interests; with a focus on making a difference. He loved family, friends, food and fun. He was a father figure to many. Mike was known for his frugality and his generosity, and was dedicated to leaving the world a better place. He was force… larger than life, with a huge heart.

Those left to cherish his memories are his beloved wife of 60 years, Mary Lou and his adored children and grandchildren Christine Glauber, Marcella (James) Montgomery, Caitlin “Dakota” Glauber, Colton Montgomery, Jacob Montgomery and Meredith Montgomery. Family was extremely important to Mike, and God blessed him with abundance. He also leaves behind siblings Marianne Kohl, Charlie (Mary Francis) Glauber, Margie (Michael) Herr, Susan Brooks; siblings in-law Janie (Mike) Saxe, Eileen (Ed) Barry-Cocetti, Marcie (John) Merrell, Jim (Alma) Barry, Tom (Renee) Barry; nephews Ben (Julie) Brooks, Mick Saxe, Tim Saxe, Barry Merrell, Mike Merrell, James (Kelly) Barry, Jeffrey Barry; nieces Mary Brooks, Laura (Brian) Gunter, Kim Barry, Mallory (Vivek) Kuppusamy, Nancy Barry, Ali Barry, Kate Barry, Eileen Barry; cousins Judy Bruner, Bunny Arriola and many others. Mike loved children and was elated to meet the next generation of great-nieces and nephews. Keep ‘em coming!

He is preceded in death by his parents Bill and Mary Glauber, daughter Catherine Glauber, beloved Aunt Ruth Weidenbenner, brother in-law Richard Kohl and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family also wants to recognize a deep appreciation for Ruby Captain and Francisco Chavis. These two angels on earth are invaluable members of our family and Mike loved them dearly.

Mike believed in taking care of those unable to care for themselves and had a huge heart for children and animals. He would appreciate any gift made in his memory to your favorite local charity if you are so moved.
