Sylvia Kondorf

(From Fohn Funeral Home)

On June 8, 2025, in the comfort of her home, Sylvia Lynn Kondorf, 74, died peacefully and went to be with the Lord.

Sylvia was born to the late Virgil and Mary Balding on January 25, 1951 in the suburbs of Chicago, IL and had a very close relationship with her immediate and extended family. She would ultimately follow her parents in their retirement and be there for them until the end, love and support her brother Dave in the years leading to his death, and carry a deep love and respect for Don (Oklahoma City, OK) until her passing.

Sylvia raised three children – Stacey Robertson of Joplin, MO, Gwendylan Quinn of St. Louis, MO, and John Zajac of Cassville, MO. Her kids and their families were her whole world and greatest accomplishment. She particularly loved being Bama and Grandma to her 13 grandkids and great granddaughter. She had a special and unique bond with each of her kids and grandkids and cherished every big or small moment she had with them.

In 2005, she reconnected with Michael Kondorf, from her high school years. Syl and Mike married in March 2007 and would celebrate over 18 years together. Along with gaining love and companionship, Sylvia’s family grew, adding three children - Mike Kondorf, Jr, Sandie Gill, and Lorie Stewart, all of GA - along with spouses, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Together, Mike and Syl enjoyed motorcycle days, boat rides, house projects and playing with their two doodles, Snicker and Bailey. Sylvia loved Mike and their life together, and she will be deeply missed by him and the puppies.

Being a single mother, Sylvia often worked multiple jobs to support her young family. She went on to earn her RN license, finding her true calling in a career. She worked as a nurse in nearly every area from home health to critical care, always learning and growing for her patients and always treating each with compassion and kindness.

Sylvia was a Christian and had an honest and candid relationship with her Lord. She wasn’t afraid to question Him in dark times, but she also listened to Him, trusted Him, actioned on what she heard and was comforted in knowing her eternity.

Music was a central part of Sylvia and her family’s life. She had a beautiful singing voice, which brought opportunities from musicals to family Christmas caroling at nursing homes. Sylvia was also an animal lover and rescued many strays over the years – finding homes for most, but with some staying in the family. Her guilty pleasure was lake life. Countless weekends were spent on the water and nearly every vacation took place at the lake in (or skiing behind) a boat. Her parent’s retirement home on Table Rock Lake became Sylvia’s dream home, and it’s been a place of peace and enjoyment for the entire family. Sylvia’s more recent passions included knitting, sitting on her deck swing, visiting with family, shopping - because she always needed enough food in the house for drop-in visits - playing with her pups or tending to her plants. She had big dreams for her life right up until the end, but cherishing the little moments with her family was always her ultimate goal.

Syl - Mom, Wife, Bama/Grandma, Sister, Cousin and Friend - we will miss you terribly. But your fun, spunky, stubborn, unselfish, loving and passionate spirit has been passed on and will live on in those who love you until we’re all reunited.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Cassville, Missouri. Pastor Milford Baker will conduct the service.

Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
