Carol Hoover

(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)

Carol Anne Hoover, age 62, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Monday morning, January 29, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin after a courageous battle with cancer.

Carol was born February 24, 1955, in Webb City, Missouri, to the late Claude and Dolores (Bigley) Gibson. Carol was raised in the Joplin area and she was a 1973 graduate of Parkwood High School. On July 3, 1981, Carol was united in marriage to William Raymond “Bill” Hoover and together they shared almost 32 years of marriage before his passing in January 2013. During her lifetime, Carol worked for Modine and Community Bank and Trust in Joplin and she just recently celebrated 16 years with Jack Henry & Associates in Monett.

Carol was a fearless lady and she enjoyed racing her 1983 Mustang. She also made a bucket list and fully completed each task, which included going skydiving and taking a trip to Hawaii. Family always came first for Carol as she had a tremendous love for them all—especially her grandchildren—and her generosity to others will always be remembered. Carol also had a love for football and she was a loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan. Carol’s faith never faltered through all of the trials and tribulations thrown at her during her short lifetime. She was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Joplin.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a daughter, Amy; and two brothers, Gene Gibson and her twin brother, Carl Gibson.

Survivors include her three children, Shelby Hoover of Joplin, Missouri, Matt Hoover and fiancé, Ashley, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, and Bill Hoover, Jr., and wife, April, of Neosho, Missouri; six grandchildren, Emily, Cameron, Coda, Danyelle, Gaby and Seeley; two siblings, Elaine Clark of Baxter Springs, Kansas, and Robert Gibson and wife, Dorie, of Grove, Oklahoma; two very special friends, Steve and Sandi McCoy of Saginaw, Missouri; several beloved nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Mass for Carol is 9:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Travis Gibson, Robert Clark, Dan Smith, Jim Barron, Brad Berger and Ken Johnson with Mike Snodgrass as an honorary pallbearer. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Joplin Area Catholic Schools in care of the mortuary.
