Marjorie Jones

Early Saturday morning, January 27, 2018 Marjorie Jones, 94, of Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, Kansas, went to be with her Savior after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

Marjorie June Bunton was born June 21, 1923 near Verdella, Missouri to Emmet & Jessie Kuhlman Bunton. She attended school at Excelsior country school and Liberal High School. On August 18, 1940, she married Walter Crockett at Hume, Missouri. Together they owned a general store in Irwin, Missouri until 1943 when they began farming near Liberal, Missouri. Three children were born to this marriage. Walter died suddenly in 1969. Following his death, Marjorie was employed as a U.S. Census Taker and then as a bank teller at Citizens Bank of Liberal until she retired in 1982. She married William “Bill” Jones on April 3, 1971. He died in a car/train accident in 2015.

Marjorie loved Jesus, her family, working in her vegetable garden and cooking. With a huge heart for others she fried many chickens and baked even more pies to share. She was a member of the Liberal Methodist Church while raising her children and then became a member of Liberal Christian Church when she married Bill. She was active in the women’s ministries of both.

Survivors include son, Tom (Wilma) Crockett of Liberal; daughters, Louise (Denny) Egbert of Shawnee, Kansas, and Kathy (Mike) Conduff of Denton, Texas; step-daughters, Leann (Bruce) Barker of Liberal and Laura Scarlatto of Rosenberg, Texas; ten grandchildren, Keith Crockett, Michelle Fast, Kevin Egbert, Scott Egbert, Corey Conduff, Kayla Whitworth, Valerie Barker, Kari Meadows, Tanner Scarlatto and Remington Scarlatto; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ivan & Cecil Bunton; sisters, Virginia Reeves Sohn and Joan Thomas; husbands, Walter Crockett and Bill Jones; and one great-great grandson, Clayton Meadows.

A private family burial at Barton City Cemetery will be followed by a celebration of her life at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 1st at the Christian Church in Liberal, Scott Grey officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberal Christian Church.
