Betty Wiggins

Betty (Bessie) W. Wiggins, 99, Carthage, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at her home. 

Betty Wiggins was born November 29, 1918 in Belvidere, New Jersey; a daughter of the late George M. Widenor and Amelia Strackbein. She was a graduate of Belvidere High School, Class of 1936. 

She married James W. Wiggins on August 29, 1943 in Valley Forge, PA; he preceded her in death on January 26, 2007. Betty and her husband Jim came to Carthage in 1979 from Calgary Alberta Canada after Jim’s retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carthage where she served with the Presbyterian Women’s group. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross at McCune-Brooks Hospital and the Bloodmobile, served as a member of the hospital auxiliary, a member of the Mimosa Garden Club, the Carthage Historic Preservation and Friends of the Phelps House. Betty was a past Matron-Warren Chapter 128, Order of the Eastern Star and a 70-year member of the Delaware Chapter #150, Phillipsburg, NJ.

Survivors include two sons; John R. Wiggins, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and William W. (Sandra) Wiggins, Carthage; one granddaughter, Kimberly Wiggins, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She was preceded in death by a brother, William W. Widenor and one sister, Irma Siney.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 pm, Monday, January 29, 2018 at Knell Mortuary. Memorial services will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, January 30, 2018 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Rev. Greg Esselman will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W.
