Jeanie Woods

Laura Jeanine (Weir) Fisher Stout Woods, 71, of Anderson, Missouri, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday evening, January 19, 2018, in the comfort of her residence after a recent battle with cancer. Jeanie was born on August 5, 1946, in Lawrence, Kansas, daughter of the late Robert C. and Helen (Street) Weir. She has resided in McDonald County for the past forty-five years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Weir and Helen Weir Williams; and infant sister, Marion Jane Weir. Survivors include one son, Robert Joseph Fisher of Santa Fe, New Mexico; a grandson, Joshua S. Fisher of Ashland, Oregon; two brothers, Martin Weir and wife, Alice, of Richmond, Texas and Ronald Weir and wife, Jocelyn, of St. Joseph, Missouri; a sister, Roberta Weir of Holts Summit, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Jeanie attended kindergarten in Lawrence, Kansas, grades 1-7 at Pineville Elementary School, grades 8-11 in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1964. Jeanie attended Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Missouri, Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri and Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, Missouri, where she received her Bachelors in education. She later received her Masters from Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. Jeanie also took post-graduate classes at Pittsburg State University.

Jeanie taught first grade at Pineville Elementary School for eighteen years. She taught Kindergarten at Anderson Elementary School for five years and taught various grades at the Grove Lower Elementary School, in Grove, Oklahoma for seven years. Jeanie was chosen Site Teacher of the Year in 2011, for Grove Lower Elementary School. She formally retired from teaching in 2012. Teaching was Jeanie’s passion.

Jeanie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Anderson, Missouri, before becoming a member of New Life Church. She enjoyed playing handbells, teaching AWANAS, Children’s Church and VBS.

Jeanie was a past member of the Lambda Chi chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha, a philanthropic sorority, for twenty-two years. She served at president and held other offices within the organization. She was chosen as first runner-up as the Outstanding Woman of the Year for the state of Missouri.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at New Life Church in Anderson, Missouri, with Bro. Tom Ellis officiating. Burial will follow in the Pineville Cemetery. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Robert Fisher, Josh Fisher, Martin Weir, Ronnie Weir, Jamie Roark and Marcus Pratt. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes.
