Mr. Rodney L. Mitchell, 89, of Anderson, Missouri, passed away at 6:17 a.m. on Sunday morning, January 14, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, after a brief illness.
On April 7, 1928, Rodney was born to the late Norman and Ellen Mullard (Lewis) Mitchell, the eldest of five children. A carpenter by trade, Rodney was a skilled craftsman and cabinet maker. He worked for the Overhead Door Company, retiring in 1990. He was a longtime member of the Anderson United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Mitchell.
Rodney married the former Margarette Berryhill on May 24, 1952 and she survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Matt Mitchell and fiancé Robyn Wilkerson of Anderson and Grant Mitchell and wife, Celia, of Joplin; four grandchildren, Leslie Mitchell Cartledge and husband, Charles, of Fairfield, California, Kile Mitchell Campbell and husband, James, of Woodland, California, Philip Mitchell and wife, Amanda of Joplin and Meredith Mitchell Reed and husband, Will, of Dodd City, Texas; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie Cartledge, Zach, Allyson and Madison Thompson and Katherine Mitchell due to arrive in March. Also survived by a brother, Jim Mitchell and wife, Pat; two sisters, Linda Boydston and Carole Peck and husband, Buddy, of Noel. In addition he leaves a host of special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2018, in the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Homes with Pastor Pam Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Peace Valley Cemetery in Anderson. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Gary Sanny, Kevin Blecha, Rick Peck, Jack Anderson, Rusty Dalton and Steve Thomas. Chad Dalton, Blaine Dalton, Bill Barnes, Mark Cooper, Frank Boyer, Don Boyer, Glenn Clifton and Patrick Dalton will be serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with a Masonic Service to begin at 10:50 a.m. Memorials are being directed to the Anderson United Methodist Church c/o the funeral home.
