Dennis D. Erwin, age 74, Joplin, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at Freeman Hospital after a sudden illness.
Dennis was born March 25, 1943 in Van Buren, Arkansas to the late Harvey Erwin and Sybil Hicks Erwin.
Dennis moved to Joplin from Pittsburg, Kansas. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he played tennis. Dennis was owner and operator of Sugar Creek Designs for over twenty years, retiring in 2000. He was a former Eagle Scout; past member of the Joplin Chamber of Commerce, Joplin Rotary Club and member of the Missouri National Guard. He loved the outdoors, spending time at the lake and instructing his granddaughter, Madison, on how to play tennis! He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dennis married Jayne Burks fifty five years ago in Henrietta, Oklahoma. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include his son, David Erwin, Joplin; granddaughter, Madison; a sister, Janie Johnson, Joplin and a brother, Phillip Erwin, Joplin.
Dennis has been taken for cremation.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
