Della Shaffer

Della Mae Shaffer, 81, of Sarcoxie, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center.

Della was born on June 8, 1940 in Newton County, Missouri to the union of the late George Lee and Ida Mae (Presley) Hilker. She graduated in 1959 from Midway High School. 

On March 16, 1961 she was united in marriage to James C. Shaffer. Together they shared forty-five years until his passing on May 2, 2006. 







Della was a wonderful homemaker as well as an excellent caregiver. As a caregiver she was very caring, reliable and respectful. She took great pride in helping care for others. She was a member of New Fairview Baptist Church, where she was very active. For several years she did volunteer work for the Sarcoxie Nursing Center and the Sarcoxie Senior Center. She enjoyed cross word puzzles, plastic canvas needle work, bingo; as well as spending time with her family and friends. She will truly be missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James C. Shaffer; siblings, Alice Hains, Larry Pat Hilker and Jackie Ray Hilker.








Della is survived by her sister, Mary Lee Oates, of Pierce City, Missouri; special niece, Angela Starchman and her husband, Todd, of Joplin, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Shaffer are 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Sarcoxie Cemetery with Pastor Marvin Hensley officiating. Those honoring her life as honorary pallbearers are Terry White, Bobby Horrall and Kevin Starchman. In-lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
