Tom Garrett

(From Parker Mortuary)

Thomas “Tom” Lee Garrett, age 56, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Tom was born on November 26, 1967, in Wichita, KS, to the union of Virgil Garrett and Linda (Pinkley) Vicens. He was a 1985 graduate of the last graduating classes of Parkwood High School.

After graduating, he enlisted into the United States Navy and served his country faithfully.

After returning to civilian life, he enjoyed working and was known by the local construction companies as one of the best framers in the Joplin area for many years. To many he was known as “Turkey Tom”. He had quite the jokester personality. Tom loved going to the local bars to shoot pool, throw darts, and cut up with his friends. Tom was a member of the Elks Lodge in Galena, Kansas. He was the most selfless person you would have ever met and will be dearly missed by all his friends and family.

Tom is survived by his partner, Angela Kienzle; eight children, Kandis Elkins and husband, Josh, B.J. Huffman and wife, Mallory, Krista Moser and husband, John, Taylor Allphin and husband, Derek, Chris Heger and wife, Franka, Casey Heger and life partner, Madison Ring, Aurora Heikkila, and Oscar Kienzle; parents, Virgil Garrett and Linda Vicens; three siblings, Shari Owens and husband, Eddie, Andy Garrett and wife, Michelle, and Adam Powell and wife, Shari; brother-in-law, Mark Kienzle; many grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the special care of Parker Mortuary.

  1. I just found out about Tom last night and I am so heartbroken! I can’t imagine how you all must feel and I know this is a tremendous loss! Turkey Tom was one of the best guys I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing! He saved me in multiple situations when I was younger and was a true blue friend!!! I’m very sorry! If there’s ever anything I can do please do not hesitate to contact me! The last time I saw him he was heartbroken and said he couldn’t bear to lose any family members! He loves you all with all his heart and he is still with you in spirit, I’m sure of that! Bless your hearts!
