(From Paul Thomas Funeral Home)George Nolan Couch, Jr., of Miami, OK, passed from this life at his home on Thursday, December 4, 2025. He was 90 years old.
George was born February 15, 1935, in Big Cabin, OK, to George Nolan and Almeda (Keener) Couch, Sr. He graduated from Welch High School with the Class of 1953. He had lived in the Miami area most of his life, building a lifetime of friendships, family ties, and community service.
George spent his career as a banker and loan officer, serving at First National Bank in Miami and Miami National Bank. He later co-founded Quad States Financial Services in Miami. Known for his integrity, steady guidance, and genuine care for the people he served, George helped countless families and businesses in Ottawa County over the decades.
George believed deeply in giving back to the community. He was a member and past president of the Miami Noon Lions Club, the Miami Chamber of Commerce, and the Miami Jaycees. He was also a member of Miami Elks Lodge No. 1320.
George was a longtime member of Miami Lodge No. 140 A.F.&A.M. He was a 33rd Degree Mason with the Tulsa Scottish Rite Consistory, a member of Akdar Shrine Temple in Tulsa, the Grand Lake Shrine Club in Miami, and the Royal Order of Jesters. He was a member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Miami and a long time member and past president at Miami Golf and Country Club.
One of George’s greatest contributions to Miami was founding the “A-Team,” a volunteer group that cooked and served thousands of meals for civic organizations for approximately 40 years.
George loved the simple things in life—fresh-cut grass, a quiet afternoon outdoors, and watching the birds gather at the feeders he kept full. He never missed an Oklahoma City Thunder game and proudly watched them win their first NBA Championship last June. He also loved spending time with his close friends each Wednesday afternoon sharing a drink and solving the world’s problems.
His happiest title in life was “Papa,” and he lit up whenever the grandkids walked through the door. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, generosity, and a community made better because he was part of it.
George was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Everett Couch, Elmer Couch, and Jim Couch; and one sister, Elsie Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Candy Couch, of the home; three sons, Chris Couch and his wife Sheila of Joplin, MO, Mike Couch of Miami, OK, and Nolan Couch and his wife Taylor of Miami, OK; and four grandchildren, Ashlee Couch, Nathan Couch and his wife Nichole Wilson, Camden Couch, and Corbin Couch.
A Celebration of Life Reception will be held from 4–6 p.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at the Peoria Ridge Golf Course Clubhouse east of Miami, OK. The family requests memorials be made to Akdar Shrine Temple or Grand Lake Shrine Club. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
