Betty Corbin

Betty S. Corbin, age 91, Joplin, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Mercy Hospital.

Betty was born September 21, 1924 and was the last of seven children. She was the daughter of the late Ray E. and Minnie (Spencer) Talbott. Betty was also preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Talbott, William P. 'Jenks' Talbott, Ray E. Talbott; three sisters, Edna I. Talbott Shahan, Mary Ann Talbott Cole, Helen Talbott Russell; one nephew, Mike Russell; great nephew, Casey Cole; and great niece, Robin Cole.

Betty was in the 1942 Class of Joplin High School. On November 8, 1942, she married Harold 'Bud' Corbin. He also preceded her in death on August 30, 2002.

Betty worked at Sears as a clerk in the camera department and at Community Bank as a teller. She then became a realtor and worked for over 45 years at several agencies in the area, including the Art White Agency, Remax, Four Seasons Realty; Pride and Charles Burt Realtors, with her team partner, the late Mary Davis.

Betty was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Club; the Ozark Board of Realtors; NAR Realtors; and the Ozark Gateway Board of Realtors. She was licensed in both Missouri and Kansas and enjoyed traveling to many NAR National Board meetings.

Betty was a lifetime Democrat and belonged to the Bess Truman and Hilary Clinton Club. Like her father, she worked hard for the Democratic party.

In her earlier years, Betty enjoyed fishing with family on Elk River and going to country churches while away so Carol could have her perfect attendance at Villa Heights Christian Church, where she had been a member for several years.

Betty was most proud of her two grandsons, Shaun and Jon. For many years, she took them to the Charles Burt Christmas parties. She was a great grandmother. She and Bud took the family on many trips to Branson to watch the Foggy River Boys musical shows, the boys ride the go karts and enjoy the sites and activities on the 76 strip.

Betty and Shaun lost their home and all contents in the 2011 tornado. They lived at MSSU in a storm shelter for over two weeks. Her two cats, Danny Boy and Miss Kitty, were caught a month and a half later among the ruins of the house. Betty appeared on a newscast in Dallas, Texas with newscaster, Scott Knoll and had her picture taken with President Barrack Obama while attending the memorial services for the victims at MSSU.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Carol Corbin Buck and her husband, John 'Ed' Buck; two grandsons, Shaun Corbin Buck and John Thomas Buck and significant other, Melynn Cline; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her fur babies, Danny Boy and Miss Kitty.

Services are planned for Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Doug Lawson will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Allen Burt, Wayne Martin, Floyd Lansaw, Terry Green, Dale Kitts and Scott Shanks. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Doyle, Charles Burt, Don Meredith and Jim Ray and Jim Fleischaker. The family will receive friends Sunday from 3-5:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
