Mary Anne Andrews

Dr. Mary Anne Andrews, 77, Carthage, passed away peacefully at her home after a short illness. 

Mary Anne Schwartz was born December 16, 1938 in Carthage, the daughter of the late, Charles Martin Schwartz and Laura Mae Fry Schwartz. She was a graduate of Sarcoxie High School, Class of 1956, she received her B.S. degree in music from SMSU, Springfield, MO, her MS degree from Kansas State Teacher’s College, Pittsburg, KS and her Doctorate of Music from the University of Missouri, KC, MO. 

She married Roscoe Andrews, on April 21, 1989 in Miami, OK; he preceded her in death on January 30, 2000. Dr. Andrews held memberships in the Founders Club of SMSU, Springfield, Heritage Society of PSU, Pittsburg, KS, Flarsheim Society of MU, Kansas City, MO and the Master Builders Society of John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Locally she was active with the Chapter AP, PEO Sisterhood, the Joplin Area Organists, Carthage Musical Devotees’, Carthage Council on the Arts, the Carthage Historic Preservation and Art Central, Carthage. Mary Anne was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage, where she was the church organist for 25 years. She also was the church organist for the First Christian Church, Carthage, for 12 years. She played many organ recitals in the Four- State area and did many professional piano engagements throughout the area.

Survivors include her Grace Church and First Christian Church families and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Roscoe.

A reception in her honor will be on Tuesday, May 10 from 5:30 – 6:30 PM at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 14 at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage. Interment will be in Sarcoxie Cemetery, Sarcoxie, MO.
