Jack Seward, age 81, of Webb City, Mo., went home to the Lord on Monday December 5, 2016 at Joplin Health & Rehab Center, following an illness.
Jack was born on March 18, 1935 in Joplin the son of the late Russell Howard Seward and Lena Marie (Lamb) Seward. He was also raised by his step-mother the late Edna Riggs Seward. He has been a lifelong area resident. He married Betty Hembree and together they raised four daughters. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church for forty-three years. He worked as a masonry contractor and builder, building many homes in the area. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Oronogo, Mo. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Betty Seward, Webb City, Mo.; four daughters, Joy Lee Taylor and husband Tim, Webb City, Mo., Gaylynn Morris and husband John, Webb City, Mo., Christine Meadows, Webb City, Mo., and Robbie Ann Stroud and husband Dale, Webb City, Mo.; six brothers, Charlie Seward, John Earl Seward and wife Patty, Ron Seward and wife Mary, Rick Seward and wife Peggy, Bill Seward and wife Kathy, Jack Riggs and wife Rose; three sisters, Ruth Ellen Cogbill, Shirley Kellog and husband Jim, and Patsy Jean Passantino and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Erma Hembree; nine grandchildren, Deidra Sluder and husband Scott, Brent Taylor and wife Stephanie, James Jordan of Los Angeles., Calif., Genesis Russell, Kathryn Booher and husband Jason, Emily O’Donnell and husband Brett, Cali Woodmansee and husband Chad, Brad Stroud, and Samantha Wortman and husband Ike, nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Seward and his wife Norma, and Jessie Riggs; and two sisters, Charlotte Jones and her husband Jerry, and Alice Riggs; son-in-law, Charlie Meadows, brothers-in-law, Dave Cogbill and Lance Hembree.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church, 4249 E. 13th Street, Joplin.
Burial will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Jack Seward Memorial Fund in care of the mortuary.
