Johnnie R. “Dick” Parsons, age 78, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday December 4, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, following an illness.
John was born on June 17, 1938 in Galena, Ks., the son of the late John W. Parsons and Mrytle (Baird) Parsons - Cones. He served in the United States Army. He has been a resident of Joplin for the past thirty-two years moving here from El Paso, Tx. While in El Paso he worked as a truck driver for Safeway Grocery. He was a member of the VFW, the Masonic Lodge, and the Scottish Rite in El Paso, Tx..
He is survived by two sons; Tom Parsons and wife Ronda, Canyon Lake, Tx., and John Richard “Rick” Parsons and wife Soyla, Milwaulkee, Wis.; three daughters, Patricia Nelson and husband Calvin, Milwaulkee, Wis. Rebecca L. Lavdas, Fort Atkinson, Wis., and Candace Brand and husband James, Tulsa, Ok.; one step-daughter Tami Houston, Joplin; one brother, David Cones and wife Jackie, Mountain Home, Ar.; nineteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Parsons, and one brother, Jerry Cones.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will be Lowell Cemetery, near Baxter Springs, Ks. The pallbearers will be Tom Parson, Rick Parsons, Sonny Tipton, James Brand and David Cones. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Senior Citizen Center in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
