Loren Carroll Clayton, of Lockwood, MO, departed this life on Friday, December 9, 2016, in Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO at the age of 93 years.
He was born to Carroll and Opha (Bowles) Clayton on September 29, 1923 in Lockwood, MO. His father fought in World War I in France and returned to farm near Kings Point. When Loren was 7, the Great Depression began. Loren graduated from Lockwood High School, and he attended Draughon’s Business College in Springfield.
Loren married JoAn Fortner on September 5, 1950 and lived on their farm four miles south of Lockwood. Their first child, Philip Lynn, was born on August 24, 1950 and their second child, Quentin Loren, was born on May 20, 1953.
Besides Loren being a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Lockwood, he was also a deacon for decades and taught Sunday School for a few years. For twenty-five years he volunteered every Wednesday at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home, where he had a bible study and a sing-a-long. Loren was on the school board of the Lockwood School District for a few years, and in 1963 was named the Farm Family of Dade County, MO.
He is survived by his son, Quentin Loren Clayton of Ozark, MO; and two grandchildren, Cody Clayton of Lamar, MO and Zane Clayton of Lockwood, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016, in the First Baptist Church of Lockwood. Burial will follow in Lockwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to United Cerebral Palsy.
