Ernest “Ernie” Billington Jr., age 87, of Joplin, Mo. passed away at 4:30 a.m. Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Communities of Wildwood. Ernie was born October 6, 1930 in Carthage, Mo. and had lived in the Carthage-Joplin area most of his life. He was employed with W. R. Grace Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he worked for ICI Explosives for 6 years, retiring in 1995. Ernie served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He was a member of the Carl Junction Christian Church. Ernie enjoyed fishing, and was an avid K.C. Chiefs fan.
Ernie married Aldena Schooley February 7, 1975 in Joplin and she survives. Additional survivors include three daughters, Jan Cortez and husband Cedric, Carthage, Mo., Susan Lawyer, Sarcoxie, Mo. and Vickie Kegerries and husband Randy, Carl Junction, Mo., one son Chris Schooley and wife Tara, Carl Junction, Mo. 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one on the way.
Memorial graveside services with Military Honors will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Vince and Diana Coupe’ officiating. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory of Joplin, Mo.
