Mark Alan Strohl, 68, Neosho, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, November 12, 2017. Mark was born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania on August 17, 1949 to Harry Samuel Strohl, Jr. and Dorothy (Fouchs) Strohl, he grew up in Drums and attended schools in Hazleton.
Mark was a proud Marine who joined the Corps at 17 years old. He served in the Republic of Vietnam, where he was awarded combat decorations, and at Marine Barracks 8th & I Streets in Washington, DC.
Upon discharge from the United States Marine Corps, Mark attended the New Jersey State Training Commission Academy in Trenton, New Jersey, where he graduated 1st in his class. He decided to return home to Pennsylvania and enlisted in the Pennsylvania State Police Academy where prior to retirement, he served in Troops M-P-N and Department Headquarters.
Mark was an avid sportsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a lifetime member of the NRA. You would be hard pressed to find another person who lived history as much as Mark did. A lifelong learner, he spent many hours each day reading and studying historical material. Mark was also a member of various service organizations. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Disable American Veterans Organization, 1st Marine Corps League, Vietnam Veterans of America, Masonic Lodge 621 Lehighton, PA and Masonic Lodge 709 Riverdale, GA.
Mark is survived by his four children, Marie (William) Strenger, Sarah (Marshall) Brown, Katie (Randy) Strohl, Matthew (Nancy) Strohl and stepdaughter, Trayci Willis, his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Jungmann, sisters, Marylea (Dave) Stutzman, Gail (Ron) Vasinda, Pauline Hazuka, his grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Brown and Hudson Harry Strohl, as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. Mark was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Brenda Strohl.
A memorial gathering will beheld on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017 from 1 - 3 pm at the Neosho VFW to share stories and remembrances. An additional memorial service will be planned at a later date in Drum, Pennsylvania, where Mark will be laid to rest in his home state.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to St. Jude's, Faithful Friends Animal Advocates or a Veteran's Organization of your choice.
