Garnet B. Wasson, 89, Carthage, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at her home. Garnet Bethel Newcom was born December 27, 1927 in Deloit, Iowa, the daughter of the late Heman Newcom and Cloe Myers Newcom. She was a graduate of Cameron High School, Cameron, MO and the Joplin Business College, Joplin, MO. She married Roy Wasson on December 19, 1975 in Carthage; he preceded her in death on February 8, 2008. Garnet was a legal secretary for FAG Bearing, Joplin and was a member of the Carthage Restoration Branch Church of Jesus Christ, Carthage.
Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie (Glen) Wooten, Carthage and a stepson, Mike (Valerie) Wasson, Daytona Beach, FL; one granddaughter, Glenna Wooten, Carthage and four step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Joe Wasson and two brothers, Mearl and Lowell Newcom.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage, MO. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, November 22 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Webb City, MO. Memorial gifts are suggested to Diabetic Camp Hickory Hill, Columbia, MO in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO 64836.
