Dennis Mitchell

Dennis Ode Mitchell, age 72, of Joplin MO, passed away on June 30, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. He was born on November 26, 1952 in Joplin, Missouri to Violet Eileen (Studyvin) and Floyd Mitchell.

Dennis leaves behind his spouse of 52 years, Susan (Bitzel). Daughters, Loveta Mitchell, Kim Mitchell and Mandy (Mitchell) Horner. Five grandchildren, Dalton (Nichole) Wickman, Kalee Wickman, Matthew (Kiona) Horner, Jack (Maddie) Horner and Layton Jones. Two great grandchildren, Ronan Wickman and Matthew Horner Jr. Brothers Benton “Biff” (Cora) and Randy (Robyn), Sisters, Floydean Baker, Marsha (Phil) Lawson and many nieces, nephews and extended family.








Dennis was preceded in death by both parents and siblings Violet, Lillie and Ricky Mitchell.

Dennis was employed at Larry Meadow’s Truck Salvage in his younger years. He and his wife owned and operated several businesses which included Dennis’ Installation, Dennis’ Automotive and Ryder/ Budget Truck Rental. Before retirement they opened a restaurant named Sue’s Chili Garage. All businesses were built on a reputation for honesty, hard work and dedication.

He loved restoring old cars, driving and showing them at car shows, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. Dennis could fix about any problem that was put in front of him whether it was a garage, car, plants and household things.

His steady presence, kind heart, and humor will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.








Visitation will be Monday, July 7, 2025, at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri from 5-7. Graveside Services will be at Forest Park Cemetery at 10 am July 8th, 2025, in Joplin, Missouri. Pallbearers will be nephews, Jack Inman, Garrett Webb, grandchildren, Dalton and Kalee Wickman, Jack Horner and Thomas Wickman.
