(From Derfelt Funeral Home) John Mitchell Carver, age 82 of Galena, passed away at his home on Carver Hill Road at 10:00 PM on Monday, June 30, 2025.
John was born on January 20, 1943 to the union of John Carver and Ruby Bessie (Hayes) Carver. He graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1960 and was a lifetime resident of Galena, spending the majority of his life at the family farm on Carver Hill. He worked for Doane's Feeds from 1960 until 1976, and later worked for F.A.G. Bearing as a machinist for 26 years, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Cherokee County Bee Club, enjoyed farming and being outdoors, and was especially fond of flying, hobby aviation, RC planes, and the Kansas City Royals.
He was united in marriage with Linda Lee (Snook) Carver on April 24, 1964 in Galena, KS. Together they celebrated over 60 years of marriage before her passing on September 23, 2024.
He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Amy Gandy and Brenda Hill.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Kirstyn Youngblood (husband, Mark) of Galena, and Erica Sumagpang (husband, Jesse) of Miami, OK; one sister, Suzan Sullivan; one brother-in-law, Gary Snook (Wife, Darla) of Owasso, OK; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Carver has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. The family will host a celebration of life at 6:00 PM on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the Spring River Boat and Ski Club, 7763 River Road, Galena, KS 66739. Private family burial will take place at Gandy Cemetery at a later date.
