(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Nora Lou Gilmore, age 73, of Columbus, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 9:36 PM.
Nora was born to Ira Eugene and Carmen Edna (Roberts) Shoemaker on November 30, 1952 in Joplin, Missouri. She attended school in Columbus, KS, and although she did not graduate at that time, she was so proud to earn her GED years later. Nora loved reading her Bible and was a member of Treece Pentecostal Church. She also enjoyed playing games and reading Facebook on her phone, as well as watching movies. Of all of her hobbies, Nora most loved spending time with her kids, grandkids, and her cats, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Carmen and Eugene Shoemaker; and siblings: Linda Bridendolph, Dave Shoemaker, and Bob Shoemaker.
Survivors include three children: Carmen "CJ" Long (fiancée Scott Cossairt) of Miami, OK, Robert Long Jr of Carl Junction, MO, and Sue Lee Parent of Miami, OK; sister Cora "Midge" (husband Bill) Greenlee; seven grandchildren: Briana Long and Travis Wilbur, Dakota Kernel, Faith and Ryan Ellis, Ashlyn Long Frisbie, Erin Long, Jacob Long, and McKenna Long; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, KS. The family will host a celebration of life at a later date.
