(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Billie Joe Nowlin, age 71, went peacefully to his heavenly home on January 17, 2026. He was holding the hand of the love of his life, Janie his wife of 53 years.
Billie was born on October 6, 1954 in Kanopolis, KS to Lloyd Nowlin and Ruth Millard Nowlin. He grew up in Baxter Springs, KS and was the youngest of 10 children. He attended school in Baxter Springs.
He met Janie Massengale in 1968 and they were married on November 17, 1972. They welcomed two daughters, Anita and Amanda, who they loved dearly.
Billie was a business owner and small engine repair man among other things. Billie had many talents including woodworking and restoring vintage cars. He created beautiful pieces of furniture with his two hands. He could fix pretty much anything that was broken. Above all, Billie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Billie developed a relationship with Jesus after he suffered a life-altering stroke on March 8, 2009.
Billie is preceded in death by 6 siblings, Paul Howard, Ruby Rogers, Ronnie Nowlin, Shirley McCarter Nowlin, Harold Ray Nowlin, Wayne Moorey. Three siblings survive Billie, Freda Young, Donnie Nowlin and Dickie Nowlin.

Billie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Nowlin of the home; two daughters, Anita Shouse and husband Eric of Riverton, KS, and Amanda Nowlin of Webb City, MO; grandchildren, Ty Shouse, Trenton Shouse, Trey Shouse, Kamry Nowlin, Rivers Workman, and Elliott Nowlin; along with four great grandchildren.
Billie was greatly loved by his family and many others. He touched many lives along the path of his life. He will be greatly missed and so fondly remembered.
