(From Parker Mortuary)Lonnie Rex Walker, known affectionately as Rex to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri. Born on July 26, 1938, in Fayetteville, Arkansas to the late Brad and Grace (Cain) Walker, Rex's journey through life was marked by his analytical mind, friendly demeanor, and handy nature.
Rex was a graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1955. His thirst for knowledge led him to further his education at Joplin Junior College before earning his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Missouri S & T. Rex's academic achievements paved the way for a successful and fulfilling career as an engineer with Halliburton, where he dedicated 30 years of service.
Throughout his life, Rex was a beacon of wisdom and support to his beloved wife, Joyce Stripling Walker, and their children. He was a wonderful husband to Joyce, and together they built a life filled with love and mutual respect for almost 68 years. As a father, Rex instilled in his son, Randy Walker (Annette) of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and daughters, Lynne Walker of Seattle, Washington, and Cindy Walker of Joplin, Missouri, the values of hard work, integrity, and the importance of family. His grandchildren, Zane Walker of Bainbridge Island, Washington, and Cordelia Walker of Joplin, Missouri, will fondly remember their grandfather for his love of learning, sharing of knowledge, and gentle guidance he so generously gave. Rex's brother, Russell Walker (Joy), of Joplin, Missouri, will miss the strong bond they shared as siblings. They, along with numerous nieces and nephews, all will miss Rex’s generosity and the conversations they shared.
In his leisure time, Rex was an avid follower of the stock market, applying his analytical skills to keep track of the ever-changing financial landscape. Rex was a lifelong St Louis Cardinals’ fan and car enthusiast. He loved road trips out west and exploring ghost towns and national parks. Rex always had a project going, loved grilling meals for everyone, and always was willing to help out those in need. He combined his passion for education and his generosity to set up several scholarships at Missouri S&T.
Other than his parents, Rex is preceded in death by his six other siblings: Ruby Jo Rollins, Jean Adams, Joyce Christians Oliver, Robert, Row, and Ralph Walker.
