(From Derfelt Funeral Home)James Robert Coble, “JC,” passed away on January 21, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
JC was born to the late Donald Ray and Vinita Faye (Clevenger) Coble on December 15, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. He graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1964, then serving our country as a member of the United States Army National Guard. He worked for John Brassart, and was a machinist and also a carpenter. JC was an artist not only creating many interesting pieces of abstract art, but also as a musician. There are many photos and videos of his artwork and original music that he posted to Facebook which will certainly be treasured by his family. Playing the guitar and singing were his favorite things to do and are credited with keeping him young. He was very proud and excited to be featured on Kelly’s Country Junction on television, and played regularly at the VFW.
JC was married to Beverly Durbin, and to that union was born two sons, Tony and James. His second wife was Missy Patton, and they were blessed with one son, Gregory. His third marriage was to Connie Rasmussen, and he became a stepfather to her sons Joshua and Darrell.
JC was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Vinita Coble; one son Gregory Allen Coble; wives: Beverly Durbin and Connie Rasmussen and one sister Ruth Hageman.
Survivors include two sisters: April Douthit (husband Danny) of Miami, Oklahoma, and Donna Sill (husband Dale) of Webb City, Missouri; two sons Tony Gayle and James Donovan; stepson Joshua Argabright (wife Ashley), and Darrell Argabright; grandchildren: Carmine Coble, Jasper Argabright, Alex Argabright, Areana Argabright, and Aurora Argabright; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, Kansas. There will be a memorial service held at the funeral home on February 2, 2026 at 1:30 PM. Burial of cremated remains will be at Lone Elm Cemetery at a later date.
