(From Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home)Ronald S. Barnes (Fix-It-Man) was born in Champaign, Illinois on November 6, 1948 to Richard and Frances (Brodie) Barnes. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas and made San Antonio his hometown. He was a big Texans fan. He married his soulmate Sherrill Joyce (Justice) Barnes in Colorado Springs, Colorado on March 19, 1971 while he was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. They lived their lives in Purdy and Monett, Missouri.
He gained his wings on January 26, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri. He lived a full life. He graduated college from University of Missouri in Rolla, Missouri where he got his degree in Engineering Management. He used his degree working at Caterpillar in Peoria, Illinois, he also worked for Martin Mariett and Ingersoll Rand Inc. He ran his own business from September 1983 to June 2001. The Fix-It-Man was started in Purdy, Missouri. He also was a substitute teacher for the Purdy and Monett school districts. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.
His parents Richard and Frances (Brodie) Barnes, brother Norman Barnes, his in-laws Alfred and Catherine (Brittenham) Justice, his brother-in-laws; Douglas Justice and Richard (Dick) Neal all preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Sherrill Joyce (Justice) Barnes of the home; two children; one daughter; Ruby (Barnes) Smith and Russell Smith of Glenwood, Arkansas and one son; James (Sara) Barnes of Purdy, Missouri; three grandsons, two step grandsons and one granddaughter: Coney Barnes, Codey Slyter of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Mathew Slyter of Glenwood, Arkansas, Travis and (Jessica) Smith of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Russ Hollingsworth of Huntsville, Alabama, Brooke Barnes of Purdy, Missouri; eight great-grandchildren: Leo, Cole, Genny Slyter all of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Ollie Lawson-Slyter of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Leighann, Travis Wade Smith II, Trevor, Olivia Smith of Gape Girardeau, Missouri; four sisters: Bonita Brodie of Farmington, Utah, Katherine (Keith) Thompson of Summersville, Missouri, Hether (Dick Neal of Cedar Hill Missouri, Bettina (Steve) Southards of Cedar Hill, Missouri; one sister-in-law: Sandra Barnes of Maryville, Tennessee; best friends: Larry Francis and James Hayes of Missouri and lots of nieces and nephews.
There are no services being held for Ronald.
Donations in Ronald's name may be made to the Monett VFW in Monett, Missouri.
