(From Ozark Funeral Home)Rufus Wayne Henley, 93, passed away on Tuesday evening, September 29, 2026, in the comfort of his home in Goodman, Missouri. He entered this life on March 29, 1933, in Grapevine, Texas, born to the union of the late George Rufus and Edna Claudine Henley.
He was raised and graduated from high school in Cheney, Kansas. He later continued his studies at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, where he earned a master’s degree in education and psychology. His commitment to learning and his belief in the value of education shaped both his career and the way he encouraged those around him.
Rufus dedicated 40 years of his life to teaching, retiring in the late 1990s after a long and meaningful career. He taught mostly in Cheney, Kansas and Paradise, Texas, where he touched the lives of countless students.
In addition to his work in education, he was also an ordained minister. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he served others with pride, compassion, and a sincere desire to make a difference.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Bonnie Jean (Norrish) Henley, whom he married on June 4, 1968. He is also survived by his six children, along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Rufus and Edna Claudine Henley, as well as all of his siblings.
Graveside services are 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2026 at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri with Daniel Taylor officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are David, Donald, Russel, Jonathan, Mark and Stephen Henley with Byron Henley and Lewis Carter serving as honorary. Arrangements are under the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
