Dan Frickenschmidt

Daniel Martin Frickenschmidt, of Springfield, MO, passed away on March 14, 2021. Dan was born on July 28, 1970 to Larry and Lois (Demings) Frickenschmidt. 

He married Sara Beth Russell on September 16, 2005.

Dan served 25 years in the US Army obtaining the rank of Colonel. He served his country in the combat zones of Iraq and Afghanistan. He was a loyal and highly decorated soldier with awards and decorations that included: Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army Meritorious Service Medal (20LC), Army Commendation Medal (10LC), Army Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, NATO Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Coast Guard Unit Commendation Medal, Army Superior Unit Award, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal with one bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Meritorious Medal with Silver Hour Glass and M devices, the Combat Action Badge, the Army Staff Identification Badge and the German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge.

Colonel Frickenschmidt (retired) held a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Missouri State University, a Master of Arts in Historical Theology from Concordia Seminary and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. His last assignment was as professor of Military History at the National War College in Washington D.C.








Dan loved his family, especially his spouse Sara and her two daughters, his parents and many friends.

He leaves behind his wife, Sara and his stepdaughter Phoebe Farris and family, his parents Larry and Lois Frickenschmidt, and William and Teresa Russell. We were very proud of Dan for his accomplishments and more so of his character. He had a true servant’s heart and volunteered with many organizations, including the Arizona Rangers and was a member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shriners Club. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and his many friends.

Due to COVID, graveside services with full military honors will be held at the Pennsboro Cemetery for the immediate family and close friends at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2021. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
