Gailand Wayne "G.W." Johnston, age 93, of Lamar, MO passed away March 16, 2021, at Cox Barton County Hospital.
G.W. was born October 7, 1927 in Pryor, OK, to Audi and Mae (Madole) Johnston. He served his country in the United States Navy aboard the USS Nevada from 1945 until 1947. On February 19, 1951 G.W. married Evelyn Loveall. They were married 68 years when she passed in 2019.
G.W. farmed and raised livestock followed by many years of livestock hauling for farmers throughout the Four State area. He enjoyed blue grass music, especially when the Johnston family played at family gatherings. He was also a Baptist.
Survivors include one son, Gailand (Bonnie) Johnston, Lamar, MO; two daughters, Patty Batcheler, Lamar, MO and Lisa (Randy) McAtee, Girard, KS; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, with one more to arrive in April; three sisters, Maxine Francis, Lamar, MO Thelma (Roy) Lehman, Lamar, MO and Connie (Bud) Taylor, Kearney, MO.
Preceding G.W. in death were his wife Evelyn, his parents, a daughter Tina Clemons, a son-in-law, Dennis Batcheler, and four brothers, Dean, Don, Bud and Gary Johnston.
The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2021 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
