Bill Costlow

Billie “Bill” Gene Costlow, 93 of Baxter Springs, Kansas passed from this life on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at Quaker Hill Nursing Home.

Bill was born October 21, 1928 in Phelps, Missouri to the union of James Albert and Lela Wilminia (Bowerman) Costlow. Bill graduated from Quapaw High School with the class of 1946. He then attended NEO and received his Associate degree. 

Bill served as a 2nd Class Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1952-1955, stationed in California, Oklahoma, Texas, and Japan.






 

During his time in the service, he worked as an airplane mechanic. Following the service Bill worked for Boeing Manufacturing in Wichita for two years before moving back to Baxter Springs.

Bill was a furniture salesman for Westco Home Furnishings until retiring in 2007. Bill served on the Baxter Springs Ambulance Board and the Family Life board. Earlier in life Bill was a member of the Joplin Men’s Bowling league.

Bill was united in marriage to Coralie Ann (Evans) Costlow on February 12, 1949 in Baxter Springs, KS. She precedes him in death. Additional family that preceded Bill in death are his parents, and four brothers, Charles, Lloyd, Jim, and Don; grandchild, Brian; great grandchild, Colby.

Bill is survived by four daughters, Vicki Means (Don) of Galena, KS, Kathy Wilson (Homer) of Baxter Springs, KS, Karen Green (Tom) of Pierce City, MO, and Kay Dinger (Alan) of Baxter Springs, KS; one son, Ron Costlow (Audrey) of Baxter Springs, KS; sister, Wanda Youngblood of Broken Arrow, OK; fifteen grandchildren, Christy Corbit, Josh Esquibel, Christopher Means, Andrea Dinger, Brad Biddle, Brent Dinger, Matt Biddle, Jake Hamilton, Kelsey Biddle, Lyndee Costlow, Corey Smith, Gage Smith, Brody Smith, and Izzy Smith; along with thirteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. David Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lowell Cemetery. Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2022 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Pallbearers for the service are Brad Biddle, Matt Biddle, Brent Dinger, Cody Haverfield, Tyler Haverfield, Caden Haverfield, and Jake Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers are Christopher Means, and Josh Esquibel.
