Don Winterbower

Don Winterbower, 85, of Hepler, died at 5:40 p.m., Monday, May 16, 2022 in Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Don was born March 6, 1937 in Hepler, a son of Raymond and Vauda (Guss) Winterbower. He grew up and attended schools in Hepler and graduated from Hepler High School in 1951.

He served in the US Army as a military policeman.








He married Charolette M. Walsh on February 12, 1961 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.
Don worked as a laborer for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Erie for 26 years.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church near Hepler; the Hepler Ruritan; the Hepler Fire Department.

Don enjoyed his family and raising cattle.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, Charolette, of the home are a son, Randy R. Winterbower of Hepler; a daughter, La Dale Grant, and her husband, Rod, of Joplin; his sisters, Lucille Spurling, of Girard and Helen Bower of Fort Scott; his grandchildren, Colby Winterbower, and his fiancé, Ryann Horn, of Pawhuska, Oklahoma; Carly Winterbower, and her fiancé, Christopher Russell, of Rolla, Missouri; Cara White, and her husband, Michael, of Ozark, Missouri; Levi Grant, and his fiancé, Dena Williams, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Chelsey Caballero, and her husband, Ricco, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his great-granddaughter, Everlee Caballero of Oklahoma City; Son-in-law Randy Smith, Husband of the late Ladonna (Winterbower) Smith.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, LaDonna Smith, on November 27, 2018; a granddaughter, Bridgette D. Smith, on June 26, 1999; his sister, Betty Hibdon; his brother, Lee Winterbower.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Hepler Cemetery with Pastor Caleb Stoever officiating.

Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
