Joyce Waring

Marian “Joyce” Waring, 88, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Carthage, Missouri. Joyce was born December 14, 1933, in Durham, North Carolina to Lester W. Holland and Marcia E. Horne. She was a longtime resident of Carthage, Missouri. 

She graduated from high school in Stedman, North Carolina then spent a year at Worth Business College in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She also attended Jones College in Orlando, Florida. 








Joyce retired on July 22, 1999, from the University of Central Florida after 27 years of service. Within the University, she spent time working in the College of Business Administration as the Assistant to the Dean of Marketing, and as the Assistant to the Director of the Small Business Development Center. In 1985, Joyce had the opportunity to assist Dr. Mary Joyce, Marketing professor at the University of Central Florida, at the Irwin Memorial Blood Bank in San Francisco, California, as her administrative assistant. Joyce was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross. Once moving to Carthage, Missouri, she attended the First United Methodist Church. Joyce loved to read and collect fine china.

Joyce is survived by two sons, Richard Douglas Waring, Jr. (Carrie) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Robert E. Waring (Allison) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Lora Lee Waring of Carthage, Missouri and Elaine Waring Burr (Lyman) of Carthage, Missouri; one brother, George L. Holland of Atlanta, Georgia; seven grandchildren, Jana Waring Helms (Cory), Addison Burr, Aurelia Burr, Rebecca Scrievner (Dalton), Victoria Waring, Lauren Waring, and James Waring; and one great grandchild, Griffin Helms.

Joyce is preceded by one son, Joseph Waring in 1978; her parents, Lester and Marcia Holland; and one brother, William D. Holland.
