Donnie G. Abernathy, 77, Neosho, passed away March 24, 2016 in Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Donnie was born February 28, 1939 in Joplin, the son of Jasper R. and Agnes P. (Clark) Abernathy. He was a lifelong area resident. Donnie was supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at Diamond School District for 15 years, prior to that he worked in construction. He was a member of Landmark Tabernacle Church. He loved his work and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Donnie and Nelda Richards were married on November 4, 1956 and she survives. He is also survived by three children: Terry (Melissa) Abernathy, Verona, MO, Lynda (Terry) Howe, Neosho, MO and Denny (Vicky) Abernathy, Seneca, MO.
Also surviving is one sister, Yuovene (Lavere) Swaffer, Purdy, MO and 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Marie Abernathy and a brother David Leon Abernathy.
