Wylla McCormick

Wylla Jeanne McCormick, 91, died at 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Joplin Health and Rehab in Joplin following a long recovery from a broken hip.

Born March 6, 1925, in Enid, Oklahoma, she was the last survivor of 5 children of Dr. Waldo Bernie Marvine Bee Newell and Hettye Margaret Johnson Newell. Wylla graduated from Enid High School and majored in home economics in college at Phillips University.

She enjoyed a life of music, sang in the church choir for over 50 years and sang at countless weddings and funerals. She was very active at First Baptist Church in serving on committees and teaching Sunday School. She was an active member of P.E.O. and active in Loaves and Fishes. She was awarded the outstanding service award for community service from the Monett Jaycees Wives. She was an avid seamstress, homemaker and bookkeeper for the family veterinary practice.

She was married to Dr. C.J McCormick, D.V.M. on August 1, 1944, in Amarillo, Texas, who preceded her in death in 2003. Also preceding her in death was her oldest son, Dr. Don N. McCormick, D.V.M. and son-in-law John DeCosta.

Surviving are daughter-in-law Vicki Nelson and husband Paul of Ozark, Missouri, one son, Alan R. McCormick and his wife, Rhonda, of Carthage; one daughter, Sharon McCormick of Bowie, Maryland; four grandchildren, Shawn McCormick and wife Kelly of Sierra Vista, Arizona, Steve McCormick and wife Janna of Miami, Oklahoma, Jamie Brust and husband Brian of Seabrook, Texas, and Cody McCormick and wife Dana of Diamond, Missouri; three step grandchildren Paige DeCosta of Springfield, Virginia, Jason DeCosta of Baltimore, Maryland, and Alex DeCosta of La Jolla, California; seven great-grandchildren Andrew McCormick of Purdy, LeAnn McCormick of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jared, Gabriel, and Emma Clare McCormick of Miami, Oklahoma, Caden Stevens of Seabrook, Texas and Casen McCormick of Diamond, Missouri; and one step great-granddaughter Sydney Starkey of Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at First Baptist Church of Monett with Dr. Bill Cox officiating. Graveside services will be private. Memorials have been established to Loaves and Fishes and First Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
