Stephen Molitor

Mr. Stephen Carl Molitor, 92, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday morning, March 13, 2016, at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

Stephen entered this life on January 30, 1924, in O’Fallon, Missouri, one of two children born to the late Stephen and Hattie (Oliver) Molitor. He was raised in Seneca, Missouri and was a graduate of Seneca High School. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during WW-II. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and on January 18, 1947, he was united in marriage to Anne E. Hegeman and to this union one daughter was born. He was employed by Pennington Drug for over thirty-nine years, retiring in 1984. He was a sixty-five year member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and since the 2011 Joplin Tornado he has attended St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Stephen was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, the St. Louis Cardinals and attending Mass.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Anne Molitor on September 30, 2009; and one sister, Regina Muller.

Stephen is survived by his daughter, Carol Gandy of Webb City, Missouri; two grandsons, Stephen Gandy of Webb City and Michael Gandy and wife, Lauren, of Springfield, Missouri; two great -grandchildren; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father J. Friedel officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are David Drake, Jim Kastler, Gerry Glynn, Larry Bueller, John Olson and Pat Kelly. A Rosary will be held on Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri, with visitation following until 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to St. Peter’s Catholic Church and contributions may be left at the mortuary.
