Charles Hopkins

Charles F. Hopkins, age 70 of Galena, passed away at Freeman West Hospital on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at 3:15 PM.

Charles was born on May 18, 1946 in Joplin, MO to the union of Robert Sylvester Hopkins and Frances Idella (Still) Hopkins. He attended school in Riverton, KS until the ninth grade, when he transferred to Quapaw High School. He graduated from Quapaw with the Class of 1963.

Charles worked as a Processor at Eagle Picher for many years before retiring in 2007. He had also worked previously as a Route Driver for the Bunny Bread Company. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, and also served as a Union Rep for the Eagle Picher Union. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Springs City, MO. His hobbies included being a T-Ball Coach and Softball Coach, as well as playing men’s league slow-pitch softball, bowling, camping, and fishing. Above all else, he was a family man, and loved his kids and grandkids.

Charles was united in marriage with Vicki N. Matthews on August 1, 1970 in Douthitt, OK. She survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Janet Woodward of Phoenix, AZ, and Sheila Hopkins of Maricopa, AZ; three brothers, Robert “Bobby Joe” Hopkins (wife, Edna) of Mesa, AZ, Mike Hopkins (wife, Judy) of Miami, OK, and Rex Hopkins (wife, Barbara) of Miami, OK; three grandchildren, Faith Woodward, David “Bubba” Woodward, and Bryce Woodward, and one great-grandchild, Scarlet Lynn Woodward; as well as countless nieces, nephews, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 6-7:00 PM at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena.

A funeral service will be held at Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10:00 AM. Following the funeral service, Mr. Hopkins will be taken for cremation. Burial of cremains will take place at Lowell Cemetery at a later date.
