Erma Clement

Erma Grace Clement, age 85 of Joplin, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.

Erma was born March 29, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Julius Mahaffey and Grace Mae Arnold Mahaffey. She was a lifetime resident of the Joplin and Neosho area. Erma actively continued her education throughout her entire life. She left high school early to get married but later finished her G.E.D. and attended classes at Missouri Southern State College. Erma was a member of Park Plaza Christian Church, Joplin. After her husband's retirement, they owned and operated a mobile home park for several years.

At the age of 15, Erma married Robert L. Clement on June 15, 1946 in Columbus, Kansas. For 68 years, she worked tirelessly beside her husband in their many endeavors and achievements. Robert preceded her in death on March 8, 2014.

Erma worked hard as a Homemaker, not just taking care of her husband, but her three children as well, Richard L. Clement and wife, Patricia of Paducah, Kentucky, Kenneth Clement and wife, Judi of DeBary, Florida and Gayla Lang of Wichita, Kansas; brothers, Bob Mahaffey and Margaret of Grandview, Missouri, John Mahaffey and wife, Eddie of Bay City, Texas, Jerry Mahaffey and wife, Violet of Neosho; 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchildren.

Other than her parents, Erma is preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Childress, Frances Kelly; brothers, Earl "Mickie" Mahaffey, Frank Mahaffey and inf. brother, Jack.

A memorial service has been planned for Monday, November 21 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Plaza Christian Church, with B.A. Austin, minister, officiating and ashes to be interred at Osborne Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Park Plaza Christian Church or Joplin Humane Society, both in care of the mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
