Don Helms

Donald L. ‘Don” Helms, age 56, of Webb City, Mo., passed away on Wednesday November 2, 2016, at Ozark Christian College, following a sudden illness.

Don was born on December 9, 1959 in Arizona, the son of the late Donald and Barbara Helms. He has been a resident of Joplin for the past eight years. He was Chief of Security for Ozark Christian College. Prior to moving to Joplin, Don was an insurance agent for Farmers Insurance in Tulsa, Ok. He was also a Police Officer for NEO A&M College in Miami, Okla. In his early years Don designed three different models of Starlite Motorcycle Trailers for Honda. He traveled in all fifty states demonstrating and selling the trailers. He was a Chairman of ADA, he served as a Commissioner on the Environmental Board. In 1995 he ran for State Representative. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, and fishing.

Don is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Helms, Webb City, Mo.; two step-sons, Jacob Foster and wife Heather, Springfield, Mo., and Joshua Foster of the home; one brother, David Helms, Neosho, Mo.; one sister, Terri Blake, Tulsa, Ok.; and one grandson, Ewan Foster.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Ozark Christian College Chapel. Monte Shoemake will officiate. Burial will be in Webb City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Donald Helms Memorial Fund in care of the mortuary.
