Jim Dodson

(From Greenfield Funeral Chapel)

James Arthur Dodson born May 26, 1932 entered eternal rest on June 6, 2018 at the age of 86. Jim was a devoted husband to Dolores, to whom he was married for 66 years, and who preceded him in death on September 22, 2017. He was also a wonderful father to his two children, Jama and David, who survive him, as does his beloved grandson Joel Dodson, Joel’s wife Kristi and their two children, James Anthony and John David. Jim is also survived by his sister, Barbara Hodge and her son Kevin (Kim) McKenzie, as well as other beloved family members, nieces, nephews and cousins, for whom he had great love and affection. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Jennie Dodson, his sister Hazel Luton, and his brother Kenneth Dodson.

Jim was energetic about the things he cared about such as the restoration of a turn-of-the-century Victorian home on Water Street, the founding of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the construction of the new church building, and the Greenfield Historical Society’s Hulston Mill. But most of all he cared for the people of Greenfield where he and Dolores made their home for over 45 years.

Jim had a long career in the field of education as a history teacher, guidance counselor and principal serving in the Ash Grove, Willard, Waynesville, Greenfield, Springfield and Lamar school districts. He served as Mayor of Greenfield for several years and in his later years, managed a family-owned real estate rental business. For the past four years, due to failing health, he lived in St. Louis to be near his children.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday at 12:00 noon until service time in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Online condolences may be shared at www.greenfieldfuneralchapel.com. Services are under the care of Greenfield Funeral Chapel.
