Ola Ray

Mrs. Ola Martha Ray, 88, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, June 22, 2018, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after months of declining health.

Ola entered this life on February 14, 1930, in Dover, Delaware, daughter of the late Chester and Rachel (Hanks) Brown. She was raised and attended schools in Dover. On May 4, 1946, she was united in marriage to Ernest Marvin Ray and to this union three children were born. Ola was a homemaker throughout her life, devoted to caring for her husband and children. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Webb City. Her involvement in the church included teaching Sunday School Class, the Beginners Class and assisting with Bible School. Ola also started and led the church’s prayer chain and she was responsible for organizing the monthly Missionary Coffee meetings. Aside from her love of serving her church, Ola also enjoyed her flower gardens and baking.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of seventy-two years, Marvin Ray, on June 7, 2018; a granddaughter, Melanie Dahlman; and nine siblings.

Ola is survived by three children, Linda McCoy of Grass Valley, California, Joyce Turner and husband, Ed, of Webb City, Missouri, and Randy Ray and wife, Lori, of Noel, Missouri; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ray are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2018, in the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel in Webb City, Missouri, with Pastor Mike Geisert officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Jason Turner, Keagon Turner, Mason Turner, Cross Spencer, Brandon Chandler and Jared Ray with Justin Chandler as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to First Christian Church of Webb City c/o the funeral home.
