Marvin Ray

Mr. Ernest Marvin Ray, 91, of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Thursday, June 7, 2018, at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center after months of declining health.

Marvin entered this life on January 4, 1927, in Miami, Oklahoma, son of the late Ernest Smith and Tennessee Ocie (Massey) Ray. He was raised and attended schools in Webb City, Missouri. 

 On May 4, 1946, he was united in marriage to Ola Brown and to this union three children were born. Marvin was a machinist throughout his life. He was employed by Mid-Western Machinery in Joplin for forty-six years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Webb City and the Webb City Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed taking drives around town, watching Cardinals and Yankees Baseball and listening to Webb City Cardinal Football on the radio. Marvin was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Melanie Dahlman; and three brothers, Floyd, Junior and Wayne Ray.

Marvin is survived by his wife of seventy-two years, Ola Ray of the home; three children, Linda McCoy of Grass Valley, California, Joyce Turner and husband, Ed, of Webb City, Missouri and Randy Ray and wife, Lori, of Noel, Missouri; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Ray are 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, in the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel in Webb City, Missouri, with Pastor Mike Geisert officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jason Turner, Justin Chandler, Brandon Chandler, Jared Ray, Clayton Adams and Keagon Turner. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6:7:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with a Masonic service to follow the visitation.
