Slick Loyd

Charles “Slick” Loyd, age 85, of Diamond, Mo., passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018, at his home, following an illness.

Slick was born on March 19, 1933 in Joplin, the son of the late, Tom Loyd and Opal (Turner) Loyd Eden. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Army from 1952-1955. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Kerley, together they raised four children. He was a farmer and he loved taking care of his cattle. He also worked for Missouri Steel and Ed Loyd Construction. He was a member of the Risen Ranch Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and camping.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Vicki Reinhart in 1999; and six brothers, Tom Loyd, Jr., Bob Loyd, Jim Loyd, Ed Loyd, John Loyd, and Claude Loyd.

Slick is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Elizabeth “Liz” Loyd, Diamond, Mo.; three sons, Mike Loyd and wife Laura, Rogers, Ar., John Loyd and wife Shelley, Granby, Mo., and Phillip Loyd, Diamond, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Jean Campbell and Dollie Faye Eden, both of Joplin; one brother, Larry Eden, Joplin; ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

  1. Uncle Slick remains one of the kindest, firm, generous and charismatic person I have never known. He succeeded in any endeavor he took on. He was direct and committed to his beliefs in Jesus his savior. He loved his wife Aunt Liz unconditionally as well as his children. Although he is not here with us I know he is with his savior and pain free.
