Katherine M Desourdy, age 45, passed away at 5:48 am, Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following a battle with ALS.
Kathy, as she was affectionately known, was born July 16, 1972 in Carthage, MO. She had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
After earning an Associate Degree in Medical Billing, She entered the US Army. Upon her honorable discharge, she transferred to the Missouri Army National Guard attached to Unit 203 in Anderson, MO. During her military career that extended 22 years, she was assigned to serve in Kuwait, Iraq, and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
She enjoyed needlepoint, reading, and watching movies. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church, Joplin.
Surviving is one son, David Joseph Desourdy, of the home; her parents, Karen and Ron Davis, Carthage and Dale and Tammy Meadows, Joplin; 6 siblings, Shawn Meadows, Joplin, Dale Doty (wife, Susanne), Cleveland, MO, Randy Doty, Carthage, MO, Steven Johnson Winterville, N Carolina, Sarah Brown, (husband, Barry), Joplin, and Melinda Owings (husband, Jimmy), Carthage.
She was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home for cremation.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Southside Baptist Church, Joplin, MO. Chaplain Roger Flint and Pastor Phil Owens will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, in care of the funeral home.
