Lois Pickens

Lois Marie Pickens, age 89, of Joplin passed away on Thursday, March 11th, 2021 at Spring River Christian Village in Joplin.

Lois was born to the union of Edmon and Viola (Cramer) Lowery in Gravette, Arkansas on February 9th, 1932. She moved to Joplin in her younger years, the place where she would eventually meet her husband and raise their children.

Lois was married to the love of her life, Harry Pickens, on March 29th, 1950. They spent 35 years and raised seven children together before his passing on August 3rd, 1985.

From a very young age Lois was always doing her part to help take care of her family. This was a theme that she would carry throughout her life with her children, all of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was always cooking and baking for her loved ones. When she was not busy with that, she was spending quality time with all of them. Outside of being a great housewife and grandmother, Lois was a music lover. Her favorite genre was classic country, and she very much enjoyed listening to the radio, Charley Pride being at the top of the list.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Edmon and Viola (Cramer) Lowery; husband, Harry Pickens; and children, Allen Pickens, Harry Pickens Jr., Tony Pickens, and Karen Vailes.

Survivors include her sons, Vernon Pickens of Joplin, Harold Pickens of Joplin, and James Pickens and his wife, Bonnie, of Diamond; grandchildren, Cheryl Paugh and husband, John, of Joplin, Timmy Tolson of Joplin, Adam Eubanks and wife, Alice, of Carl Junction, Doug Eubanks of Joplin, and Crystal Eubanks of Joplin; 13 great-grandchildren; and multiple great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; as well as a host of extended family and friends that will dearly miss her.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
