Maxine Hadasek

Jewell Maxine Hadasek, age 89, Joplin, passed away at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday at National Health Care after an illness.

Maxine was born December 16, 1925 in Southern Illinois to the late John and Mae Kerr and had lived in the Joplin area for many years.

A homemaker, she formerly worked in retail at the former Ramsey’s Department Store and volunteered at area hospitals. She was active with Crosslines and the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Philips Episcopal Church, where she was a longtime member.

Maxine loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She and her husband took many trips camping and was a member of the Good Sams RV Club.

She married Leonard F. Hadasek on July 8, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2006.

She was also preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Van der Veen and her husband, Jim, Woodinville, Washington, Nancy Olesen and her husband, Marvin, Joplin; one sister, Virginia Penrod, Carbondale, Illinois; five grandchildren, Amy Thomas, Lisa Paugh, Jason Van der Veen, Jonathan Van der Veen, Emily Anthony; and twelve great grandchildren.

A family memorial service is planned to be held at St. Philips Episcopal Church at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
