David Eugene Barker, age 90, Joplin, passed away at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Joplin Gardens after an illness.
David was born June 20, 1927 in Jaroso, Colorado to the late J.W. Barker and Ruth Ellis Barker and had lived in Joplin since 1994, moving from Lamar, Missouri.
David was born sixth out of ten children and farmed with his father in Colorado until 1975. He then moved to Lamar, continuing to farm until he retired in 1994, moving to Joplin.
He married Jean Frances Fredrickson on January 30, 1949 in Hibbing, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2011.
David was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas, in 2011.
Survivors include a son, Terry Barker and his wife, Cathy, Purvis, Mississippi; a daughter, Nadine Barclay, Joplin; two brothers, Lyle Barker, Liberal, Duane Barker, Springfield; a sister, Dora Lutz, Lafayette, Louisiana; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
David has been taken for cremation. A committal is planned at Mountain View Cemetery, Jaroso, Colorado, at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Joplin Gardens and Regional Hospice for their loving care.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
