William “Bill” Floyd Bates age 68 of Joplin, Mo passed away Thursday January 29, 2015 at his home.
He was born on November 10, 1946 in Oklahoma City, Ok the son of Floyd and Willa Walker Bates. William grew up on military bases in the United States and England. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Russian History. He married Pat Tutty in 1967 to this union a daughter Michelle was born. William worked for Combined Group Insurance Agency in Dallas, Tx until his retirement in 2009. He then move to Joplin to be closer to his daughter and grandson. He loved to read, watch TV and Movies, going to the casino, and writing. He was an avid sports fan. He volunteered at the Parkwood Senior Apartments Library even donating many books to the library, but most of all loved watching all of his grandson’s activities.
William was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Sherry Gobble, and a son in-law Anthony Embrey. Survivors include a daughter Michelle Embrey-Hembree and her husband Reggie of Joplin, grandchildren: Hunter Embrey, Noah, Carter and Kaitey Hembree and nephew Thomas Pearce.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday February 2, 2015 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory with Pastor Howard Nunnelly officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt Hope Cemetery Webb City. The family suggests contributions to Bright Futures in care of the Mortuary.
