Cleo Wadkins

Cleo Lucille Wadkins, who was a lifelong resident of Joplin, Missouri died on Wednesday, January 28th, 2015.

Cleo was born on January 3rd, 1922 to Bannister L. and Laura Nelle (Compton) Martin. She united in marriage to the love of her life, Arthur W. Wadkins, the past Golf Professional at Twin Hills Country Club in Joplin, Missouri. He preceded her in death on June 17th, 1969. Vera Eastman, her sister, passed away on February 26th, 2013.

Cleo attended Emerson Elementary South Junior High and graduated from Joplin High School in 1939. Further education included graduation from Joplin Junior College in 1941. Cleo accepted Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized at the South Joplin Christian Church. At the time of her passing, she was a member of the First Community Church. She retired from Atlas Powder Company in 1977 after 34 years of service as an Administrative Assistant.

After retirement, Cleo volunteered for the development of the Joplin chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and as President of the Joplin Chapter of the Pilot Club. In addition, she volunteered over 9000 hours to the Freeman Hospital Auxiliary in Joplin and supported the local chapter of the American Cancer Society as President.

Cleo is survived by two nephews. Mark Stuart ( Ellen ) Eastman and Kent Douglas ( Carole Beth “C.B.” ) Eastman, both of Joplin, Missouri.
She has a niece ( Maggie Eastman) and nephew ( Stuart Eastman) plus four great-nieces and nephews.

Services to honor Cleo’s life will be held on Monday, February 2nd, 2015 at 11:00am at Thornhill- Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, MO. Visitation will precede the service starting at 10:00am on Monday at the Mortuary.
