John McCoy

“John” Johnny Paul (Johnson) McCoy, 62, of Carl Junction, MO passed away January 16, 2015. He was born March 13, 1952 to Paul Johnson and Elma (Busby) Johnson in Webb City, MO. John’s dad, Paul Johnson, died in a work accident when John was still a toddler. He became John McCoy later when adopted by her step-father Don McCoy. John attended school in Joplin MO, Sedalia MO, Springfield MO and graduated from Webb City MO in 1970. John enlisted in the Army and served as Military Police in Frankfurt Germany until honorably discharged in 1973. After returning he completed his college education at Missouri Southern College. In August 1975 John married his high school girlfriend Deborah Ann Hough.

John worked at Miners’ Ice, Consumers Grocery Store and operated a Pepperidge Farm route before becoming a driver for United Parcel Service, UPS. In 2010, after over 27 years, John retired from UPS .In addition to delivery services he served as a safety leader for several years.

John was a Boy Scout and earned the Eagle Scout award. He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
John loved fishing, the outdoors, hiking and working on his 10 acre yard. He loved being a grandfather and playing with his grandson. He enjoyed having something funny to say, having a smile on his face and having a good conversation with others.
John was preceded in death by his father, Paul Johnson, a step-father Don McCoy and a second step-father Sanford Hammond. He is survived by his wife, Debbie McCoy, of Carl Junction MO; his son Matthew John McCoy and wife Krystal, grandson Macer Sean McCoy of Joplin MO; his mother Elma (Johnson) (McCoy) Hammond of Joplin MO; his sister Chris Black and husband Steve of Carl Junction Mo; his brother Ken McCoy and wife Kim of Jacksonville FL; his sister Susan Helms and husband Greg of Joplin, MO; sister-in-law, Martha Weeks, and husband Garrell of Buffalo MO; his brother-in-law, Harvey Hough, of Potomac, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be from 6 PM to 7 PM on Wednesday, at Simpson Funeral Home in Webb City, MO. Funeral services will be 10 AM Thursday in the chapel of Simpson Funeral Home, with Rev. Joe Morris officiating. Interment will be at Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America – Ozark Council or United Way of Southwest Missouri in care of the funeral home.
